7th Saler Society Show & Sale – Roscrea Mart October 29th 2011
The 7th annual show and sale of Pedigree Salers cattle took place in Roscrea Mart Co. Tipperary on Saturday 29th of October. With buyers comming form the UK and all over Ireland demand was great for the high quality cattle on show at the sale.A packed ringside seen Top price of the day going to James McGroarty, Ballintra, Co. Donegal for his Incalf Heifer “Brownhall Jordan” she was sold for €3750 to Welsh breeder Alan Jones.”Brownhall Jordan” Is by “Rio” and by an imported cow “Uranie”.
In the large bull section Top price of €3550 went to Fernand Crowe, Carrickbawn, Ballinagh,Co.Cavan for his bull “Corlurgan Kayne”a 19mth old bull, he is by “Scorpion” and from an imported dam by “Muguet”.
Augustine Crowe, Drumlion, Ballinagh, Co. Cavan took home the next highest price of €3300 for his bull Drumlion Keith a 19mth old bull, He is by “Odon” he also received €2900 for another “Odon” bull 18mth old Drumlion Karl the champion male of the show.
Only 2 bulls were unsold in this section with one bull going North. The average for the bull section was €2700 up €1000 on last year’s sale.
There was a total clearance in the Female section. Top price in the Incalf section of €3750 was received by James McGroarty, Ballintra, Co. Donegal for his heifer “Brownhall Jordan” .Bernard Hunt, Gurteen, Co.Sligo took home €3450 for the champion heifer of the show “Sligo Islette” an Incalf heifer by “Voltaire”. Paula McKeon. Gurteen, Co. Sligo received €3150 for her Incalf Heifer “Redhill Jennifer” by “Ringo” she was sold to Scottish breeder Neil Barclay. The average for Incalf heifers was €3500 up €1200 on last year’s sale with one heifer going to Wales and one going to Scotland.
Top Price in the Maiden Heifer section of €2350 went to Alfred Melvin, Mulhuddart, Co. Dublin for “Ashbury Jemina” she was by his stock bull “Volcan”.
There was a lively trade In the 12mths to 9mths female section of the sale Top price in this section of €3050 went to John Keating, Kilnaboy, Ennis,Co. Clare for his 11mth old heifer “Ballymackeogh Kelly” she was by “Ballymackeogh Hugh”. John Keating Also received €2300 for another 11mth old heifer “Ballymackeogh Kym” she was by stock bull “Trafalgar”. John Burke, Clarecastle Co. Clare took home €2300 for his 10mth old heifer “Manusmore Kala” She was by “Seducteur” and was sold to Northern Ireland Breeder Geoff Wilson, Co. Down. John Burke Also received €1750 for a 9mth old heifer “Manusmore Lulu” by stockbull “Baltazar”.Padraic McConn, Ballygar, Co. Galway received €1900 for a 12mth old heifer “Ballygar Kim” by a stockbull “Moygara Invincible”. Michael Mckeon Gurteen, Co. Sligo received €1700 for a 11mth old heifer “Moygara Kathryn” and was sold to Northern Ireland Breeder Geoff Wilson, Co. Down.
Average price in this section was €2300 up €700 on last year’s sale with 2 heifers going North.

6th Saler Society Show & Sale – Mountrath Mart October 30th 2010 11 month old Salers Heifer Ashbury Just Perfect tops €3,600
A large crowd packed Mountrath mart for the 6th Salers cattle show and sale. Quality cattle were in huge demand as buyers from both North and South purchased cattle at the sale. After what has been a challenging year for farmers it was clear to see that the demand for Salers cattle is growing each year as the breed is making a huge impact on the Irish suckler herd.
The Champion female “Ashbury Just Perfect” an 11 month old heifer was sold for €3,600; she was bred by Alfred Melvin Ashbury house, Mulhuddart, Co. Dublin. She was sired by “Volcan” sire of many sale and show champions and by an imported cow by “Scorpion” a bull whose progeny also has a great track record in the sale and show ring.
There was an 80% clearance of heifers with 8 to 11 month old heifers averaging €1,600 and Incalf heifers averaging €2,300.
First Prize winners in the incalf heifer section was “Moygara Hucklebuck” owned byPaula Mckeon Mullaghroe, Gurteen, Co. Sligo.
First prize winner in the senior heifer section was “Clew Bay Julia” bred by Thomas Mc Greal. Prospect, Westport, Co. Mayo.
First Prize in the Junior Heifer section was “Ashbury Just Perfect” bred by Alfred Melvin Ashbury house, Mulhuddart, Co. Dublin.
There was also a brisk trade in a small bull that section featured a number of prize winning bulls from this year’s show circuit.
The Champion bull “Ballymackeogh Ivory” owned by Eddie Brennan Coon east, Coon, Co. Kilkenny was unsold on the day.
Top price in the male section went to “Ashbury Incredible” bred by Alfred Melvin Ashbury house, Mulhuddart. Co. Dublin. He was also sired by his stock bull “Volcan” and out of a home bred cow.

A new Society Sale record was set at €5,800 for “Brownhall Impressive” a 20mth old Salers heifer she was owned by Mr. James McGroarty, Brownhall,Ballintra, Co. Donegal.She was sired by his own stock bull “Sully” and out of a dam by “Marengo”.
Brownhall Impressive with breeder James McGroarty Brownhall, Ballintra, Co. Donegal and purchaser Seamus Nagle, Doolin, Co. Clare.
A large crowd saw a great demand for Salers cattle as 5 cattle were exported to N. Ireland.

With a entry of 51 cattle there was a total clearance and the top price of €2,450 was received by Cavan Breeder Brian Halton for an incalf heifer at the Salers Society Show and Sale on the 1st of November at Mountrath Mart.Dublin Breeder Mr. Alfred Melvin took the top prize in both the Male and Female section.

The Reserve Male Champion went to “Sheelin Ginger” He was bred by Mr. Seamus Gaffney, Gallonbawn, Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan. He was by “Ocaire” and out of a dam by “Marquis”. He was sold for €2,200.
There was a 75% clearance with an average price of €1,850 for bulls on the day.

A good attendance and a very lively trade resulted in a top price of €3,750 for an in calf heifer at the Salers Society show and sale in Mountrath mart on Saturday the 15th of September.
THE CHAMPION FEMALE was “Killasser Gerty” bred by John Maloney, Killasser, Swinford

1st Pedigree Society Sale Mountrath Mart September 2006
A slow trade for bulls and a flying trade for Heifers was the result of the Salers Societys first ever sale in Mountrath Mart.
Champion Male "Corlurgan Festus" Jan '05 bull which was unsold is owned by Brian Halton of Bailieboro, Co. Cavan.
Top Price in the bull section was received by Michael & Daniel McKeon of Gurteen Co. Sligo for their Jan.'05 born bull "Moygara Falstaff". Placed 3rd in his class he was unsold but in a deal concluded later in the evening he was purchased as a future stock bull for €3000. by a Cavan breeder.
Champion Female and secured top price of the day and was "Dunlo Eva" Feb '04 born, in-calf Heifer owned by Michael & Kathleen Ward of Ballinasloe and sold to Joe Fortune of Wexford for €4,000.

LATASTER ERIC, bred by Brendan and Pauline Clarke, Virginia, Co. Cavan, made the overall top price at the Tully Test Station Sale, Saturday March 4th, sold for €6,800
Lataster Eric was All Ireland Salers Calf Champion 2005, the final, which took place at the National Ploughing Championships.
He has a final weight gain at the end of the test 822 kilo, averaeg daily gain 1.73 kilo, average feed per day 9.4 kilo.
He was purchased by a consortium of 3 French breeders.
